Congratulations to Sagie Pillay who has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of National Health Laboratory Services as at 01/12/2008. 

The NHLS forms a national network of integrated pathology laboratories throughout the country that utilise common laboratory management systems and transport networks to facilitate transport of specimens, referral of tests to reference laboratories and delivery of results. Approximately 265 laboratories are included in the NHLS, employing about 6,500 people. Their activities comprise diagnostic laboratory services, research, teaching and training, and production of sera for anti-snake venom, reagents and media. All laboratories provide laboratory diagnostic services to the national Department of Health, provincial hospitals, local authorities and medical practitioners.

Congratulations to Achmat Dangor who was appointed as Chief Executive Officer for the Nelson Mandela Foundation

Achmat Dangor is a South African writer. His most important works include the novels Kafka's Curse (1997) and Bitter Fruit (2001), but he is also the author of three collections of poetry, a novella and a short-story collection. He is the winner of many literary prizes, including the South African Bosman prize for Kafka's Curse. Dangor is also an active development professional and has headed up various non-governmental organisations in South Africa, including the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. He is currently Chief Executive of the Nelson Mandela Foundation and lives in Johannesburg.

Congratulations to Luvuyo Mabombo who was appointed as Chief Executive Officer for PPECB

Luvuyo Mabombo has more than 6 years of industry experience and he brings a range of government knowledge to PPECB. For the past five years, he was the Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Agriculture and during this period he was the Acting President & Chief Executive Officer at the Agricultural Research Council for 4 months. Mr Mabombo holds a B Comm Accounting Degree through the University of the Western Cape and completed a Certificate in Public and International Economics through the Economic Policy Research Institute. Mr Mabombo will be the first black Chief Executive to serve PPECB since its founding in 1926. We believe his extensive experience and his understanding of the industry make him an excellent choice to lead PPECB as it continues to expand its commitment to ensure confidence in food by impartially delivering Food Safety & Quality Assurance Services. We are confident that under Mr Mabombo’s leadership and the support of his Executive Team, PPECB will continue to provide excellent value to our stakeholders as they continuously seek ways to instill confidence in South Africa produce.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Mintek (Previous Appointment)

Dr Paul Jourdan was the CEO of Mintek (Council for Mineral Technology) a state mineral processing and metallurgy research and development science council. He joined Mintek in 2000 from the Department of Trade & Industry where he was the Deputy Director General in charge of Special Projects, which included the Spatial Development Initiatives, or Development Corridors, and the general configuration and facilitation of investment. Before that he was the Coordinator of Minerals & Energy Policy in the ANC’s Department of Economic Policy. He has a BSc in geology and a BA in African Government from UCT, a post-grad diploma in Exploration Geophysics from the ITC in Delft, a PhD in Politics from Leeds and an MSc in Mineral Economics from Wits. His doctoral dissertation was on regional strategies for the minerals sector of southern Africa. He worked as a geologist, geophysicist, teacher and manager in Mozambique, after which he joined the Institute of Mining Research in Harare as a Mineral Economist and later as a manager. After the unbanning of the ANC in 1990 he returned to South Africa where he worked for NUM on future scenarios for our mining industry and for the Industrial Strategy Project .
